On April 17, 2017 The University of Florida Newell Hall Learning Commons held its Grand Opening Ceremony. The project included exterior rehabilitation and interior renovation of historic Newell Hall (approximately 30,300 gross SF), the 3rd oldest building on the UF campus; demolition of the adjacent Anne x(approximately 4,700 gross SF); construction of new support and food service space in the footprint of the Annex (approximately 11,500 gross SF); and site and utilities infrastructure work. The overall project budget was $16,600,000.
The design – including rehabilitation of the building envelope, interior renovations, new construction, and site redevelopment complying with Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation and reviewed by local and State historic preservation officials.
