Destination South Main is COMPLETE! Congratulations to the Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area (Gainesville CRA) and the City of Gainesville for cutting the “cable” on December 16 at the South Main Street Completion Celebration. CHW is proud to have been a design and construction team member for such a transformative project.

The Destination South Main Project is a multi-phased project that extends from SW 16th Avenue to Depot Avenue in Gainesville, Florida.  It has accumulated in these final steps, starting from taking 30% design plans to construction documents, and ending in the final construction.  The project consisted of milling and resurfacing, roadway reconstruction, drainage analysis, pavement design and review, undergrounding electrical transmission and redistribution lines and communications utilities, cost estimates, public meetings, and permitting with multiple state agencies.   As the Civil Engineer of Record, CHW coordinated with multiple design consultants to address public concerns, utility design, hardscape, and landscaping.  This effort was completed in approximately six months to meet construction obligations set by the Gainesville CRA.

South Main Street’s project team consisted of CHW Professional Consultants as the lead transportation engineer, civil engineer, construction engineering inspection, and construction administration team, GAI Consultants – Community Solutions Group, Nix Engineering, Liquid Creative, and Oelrich Construction.
