CHW is collaborating closely with the City of Gainesville, the Wild Spaces & Public Places Program, and the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department to revitalize and enhance Forest Park in Gainesville, Florida.
Acquired through annexation in November 2017, this popular recreational space offering soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts, and other amenities, has been plagued by flooding during larger storm events. Improving these busy fields is the top priority of the project and to tackle these challenges, CHW is excited to provide a diverse range of services through a continuing contract, including landscape architecture, public facilitation, civil design, permitting, construction documents and administration, and surveying and mapping.
Our comprehensive services aim to create a more resilient and enjoyable space for the park’s diverse user group by focusing on community engagement, redesigning and reconstructing the existing multi-purpose fields, adding infrastructure for a community dog park, food trucks, and stakeholder engagement and meetings, while adding new amenities like water fountains, shade structures, field lighting, seating, and a new smaller soccer field.
With ongoing collaborative efforts and a steadfast dedication to overcoming the park’s challenges, the renovations at Forest Park are anticipated to be completed by Fall 2023. The revitalized park will offer an enhanced, sustainable, and accessible recreational area tailored to the diverse needs of the community expanding Gainesville’s enriching both urban green spaces.
