Alachua, Florida, October 21, 2014 – Today the City of Alachua Commission and Downtown Redevelopment Trust Board celebrated the official ribbon cutting of NW 142nd Ter./NW 150th Ave. Construction completion and dedication of Hitchcock Baseball Park at Skinner Field.
The NW 150th Ave and 142nd Terrace Improvements promote the City of Alachua historic downtown, providing visually consistent and appealing connections between the new City Hall, Main Street, and US 441. The project maximizes parking and drainage opportunities, while adding landscaping and streetscaping to Alachua’s beautiful historic downtown. Other important aspects addressed were maximizing opportunities for parking spaces along the project corridor, improved drainage, a roundabout at the intersection of NW 150th Avenue and NW 142nd Terrace, landscaping and streetscaping consistent with Main Street, and continued access for businesses along NW 150th Avenue and NW 142nd Terrace during construction.
The CHW team performed surveying and design services to provide an underground stormwater management system, located beneath the adjacent park’s baseball field area; which provides the City of Alachua with an innovative and space saving approach to downtown stormwater management. The redesign and construction of NW 150th Avenue and NW 142nd Terrace roadways, with associated sidewalks, parking, utility improvements, landscaping, and irrigation is a progressive approach to address longstanding drainage problems that occurred in downtown Alachua.
