The South Main improvements brought new life to South Gainesville: making the area friendly to pedestrians and non-motor vehicles; increasing parking and accessibility for Depot Park, the Cade Museum, and nearby businesses; planting close to 200 trees, and adding landscaped medians.
The South Main Street development extends from SW 16th Avenue north to Depot Avenue and was a multi-phased project that consisted of milling and resurfacing, roadway reconstruction, drainage analysis, pavement design, and review, undergrounding electrical transmission and distribution lines and communications utilities, cost estimates, public meetings, and permitting with multiple state agencies. As the prime entity, we coordinated with the owner, and multiple design consultants to address public concerns, utility design, hardscape, and landscaping. This effort needed to be complete in approximately six months to meet construction obligations set by the owner.
CHW Professional Consultants was honored as Grand Award recipient in the 2021 ACEC-FL’s Engineering Excellence Awards.
