This past Saturday our friends at Oakmont hosted the Slacker Run in Gainesville, Florida. The family-friendly fun was a .4K run (yes, .4K) and included a day full of live music, local vendors, a kid’s zone, and a fantastic costume contest. Congratulations to the winners and the Child Advocacy Center on receiving the funds raised through this one-of-kind event to continue their important advocacy and therapy services.
The Child Advocacy Center, Inc. (CAC) provides a child-friendly facility for children and their families during child abuse investigations. By using a compassionate and collaborative approach, the CAC helps to facilitate healing and safety by giving children a safe place to talk about what happened to them, a multidisciplinary team of professionals to investigate their case, and advocates and therapists to help them with critical life-saving services for their family. The CAC provides ongoing advocacy and therapy services for children as long as they need at no charge to the families. Consultation and training about child abuse identification and prevention is also available for the community. In 2019, the CAC served 3,861 people affected by child abuse, including 1,799 child victims. Of these children served, 37 were victims of human trafficking and 10 were victims of child pornography.
