📢 It’s Surveyors Week in Florida, and CHW Professional Consultants is thrilled to kick off this celebration! 🌐📍
We want to give a shoutout to all the amazing surveyors and mappers out there who bring A/E/C projects to life. From collecting precise data to providing valuable insights, you are the backbone of successful project planning and execution.
The Vital Role of Surveying and Mapping in Florida’s Development
From the first land grants to modern urban planning, surveyors have been shaping the Sunshine State for centuries. As early as the 1500s, explorers were utilizing primitive tools to map and navigate the region. In the 1800s, surveyors played a crucial role in the development of railroads and roads, which connected Florida’s growing communities. As technology advanced, Florida’s surveyors embraced new methods such as aerial photography and GPS systems to improve the accuracy and efficiency of their work. This rich heritage of innovation and adaptation has shaped the land surveying profession we have today. 🌴☀️
We pay tribute to the exceptional work of our accomplished Surveying + Mapping team dispersed throughout the state. We extend our deepest gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and expertise that makes a significant daily impact on the communities we serve. Thank you for helping us build a brighter future for Florida and beyond! 🎉👏

When CHW began as a small land surveying and engineering firm, our founding vision was clear – to provide exceptional service and innovative solutions for Florida’s communities. Fast forward almost 35 years, and we’ve successfully expanded our reach to four strategically located offices in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Ocala, and Fort Myers, allowing us to serve clients across the Sunshine State.
Our multi-disciplinary A/E/C firm boasts 50+ Surveying and Mapping team members, supported by 10 Professional Surveyors and Mappers, who play a crucial role in our growth. Our team of experienced surveyors and mappers, project surveyors, CAD techs, field crew, and administrative professionals leverage advanced technology and deep regulatory understanding to deliver precise, efficient, and cost-effective solutions to both public and private sector clients.
Surveying and mapping are vital to the A/E/C industry, and the numbers are a testament to their importance. There are over 44,000 licensed surveyors in the United States, and the profession is expected to grow by almost 5% globally between 2020 and 2030. In Florida, there are approximately 2,500 registered surveyors who contribute to the state’s economy and development. In fact, the Sunshine State ranks third in the nation for the highest employment level of surveyors, and over 300 surveying and mapping technician jobs are projected to be created in Florida by 2026. 📈🌎
Here at CHW, we are proud of our heritage and the impact our Surveying and Mapping department has on the communities we serve. Our dedicated team has been involved in a wide range of projects, from road improvements and commercial developments to environmental restoration and utility infrastructure. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of quality, integrity, and innovation that our clients have come to expect.

Revolutionizing Technology: 3D Scanning & Modeling
As part of our #NSW celebrations, we’re highlighting a cutting-edge technology that’s changing the surveying & mapping industry: 3D Scanning & Modeling. This groundbreaking technology allows for greater accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration in surveying projects.
Key benefits of 3D Scanning & Modeling:
🎯 Enhanced accuracy for top-notch results
⏱️ Reduced field time, saving resources
🤝 Improved collaboration among stakeholders
💰 Cost savings through efficient data collection
#Florida is at the forefront of this technology ranking 3rd in the U.S. for 3D Scanning adoption and projecting a 7% growth in the market by 2026!
CHW’s team expertly used this technology to scan a 96″ reinforced concrete pipe for a conveyor belt system, identifying any potential skew issues and assisting CEMEX and Lake County in modernizing Schofield Road between U.S. 27 and the Orange County line. The $13 mil project will provide improved, paved access for commuters traveling to and from State Road 429 and the Greater Orlando area and is slated for completion this year.

A Week of Learning, Growth, and Celebration
As we wrap up #NationalSurveyorsWeek, we’re proud to showcase CHW’s investment in the industry and our ongoing commitment to stewardship, one of our core values. As industry leaders, we take our role as stewards seriously, working with care in our communities, advocating for our clients, and respecting existing character on project sites throughout Florida.
🚩 Today, we’re excited to be part of the ASCE Southeast Student Symposium in Jacksonville, FL, hosted by UNF College of Engineering. We’re honored to foster the next generation of A/E/C professionals as judges of the UESI Surveying Competition and join engineering students from 19 universities in Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico to put their academic concepts to the ultimate test. Participating schools prepared five-minute Topographic survey presentations for today’s portion of the competition and will apply what they’ve learned tomorrow during in-field lab measuring at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park.
🌿 At CHW, we strive to educate and inspire future surveyors and mappers, as seen in our recent career fair presentation at Trenton Elementary School and our participation in our Learning Lab at the Northeast Florida Construction Career Days, providing hands-on experiences for students interested in careers in construction, engineering, and surveying.
As we close out this special week, we want to express our love for this exciting industry and our appreciation for surveying professionals across the nation. Thank you for your dedication, hard work, and contributions to our communities. Together, we’re shaping a more sustainable and innovative future in the A/E/C industry.
